University of Florida Identification Numbers
UFID Home | Students | UF Software Developers | Background
The University of Florida is committed to protecting the privacy of students, staff, faculty and other individuals associated with the institution. In accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, disclosure of a Social Security number to the University is often voluntary. Federal and state law, however, require the University to use Social Security numbers for specific services involving employment and student loans.
The University of Florida is working to minimize the use of Social Security numbers within its business processes. Effective January 21, 2003, Social Security numbers will not be disclosed to individuals or agencies outside the University of Florida except in accordance with University policy and applicable law.
What does this mean for me?
Federal law requires the University to obtain SSNs for:
- employment
- financial aid processing
In addition, providing the University with your SSN ensures
- timely processing of admission applications
- timely responses to requests for information after you graduate
- you will be eligible for appropriate tuition tax credit under the Taxpayers' Relief Act.
